SUGARING

What is Sugaring?
Sugaring is a technique of epilation or hair removal using the basic ingredient of sugar in the process of its application. This hair removal technique has been used since 1900 BC by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Indians which at that time was considered that the hairless body is a symbol of beauty.
The ingredients that used to make the sugaring paste are sugar, lemon juice, and cup of water. Just mix these ingredients. So simple and easy. The natural ingredients make sugaring can be used to remove the hair on the whole body, including facial hair and sensitive areas like bikini line.

Sugaring Procedure
1.     Clean up the area to be processed using a mixture of water and antiseptic, so the bacteria will killed. Dry the skin, and then sprinkle it with antibacterial powder.
2.     Apply the sugar with a spatula, follow the direction of hair growth gradually.
3.    Stick the cotton strips, press it, and pull to the opposite direction of hair growth, so the hair can be removed from their roots and not broken.
4.    After the process using cotton strips is done, continue it with threading, so the surface of the skin will be cleaner.

Sugaring VS Waxing
Sugaring and waxing are the same as removing hair from the root. The difference is the main ingredient. In General, waxing use beeswax (fluid produced by bees that waterproof) and paraffin (wax-forming base ingredient).
There are 2 types of waxing, first is hot wax (wax is applied when still in melted condition and then pulled with cotton strips). The second is cold wax (cotton strips that already contain wax can be directly applied). Because the basic ingredients are oil or waterproof, after waxing process often still feel the residue on the skin.
In the sugaring process, after apply the sugar paste and pull it with cotton strips, there is an additional technique called threading. The function of threading is to remove the remaining fuzz. Not only as a method of hair removal, but also lift the dry and dead skin cells.

What is Bikini Sugaring?
Bikini sugaring is a hair removal technique that remove the hair from the bikini area. There are 3 types of bikini sugaring:
        American Sugaring
Remove hair on the upper body, around the chest, abdomen, back, and arms area.
        French Sugaring

        Brazilian Sugaring
Also known as Hollywood waxing, remove all the hair on the body, from front to back.

Sugaring Advantages
Sugaring is made from natural ingredients, no irritated skin, not burning, and safer for sensitive skin.
Sugaring is less painful than waxing, because applied in warm condition, so the pores of the skin is opened.
After the sugaring process is complete, clean the skin with water. Paste will be easier to clean because it does not contain resins or oils such as waxing. So it is not sticky.
The length of hair growth is depend on the each person hormone. In general, the hair will grow again after 4-6 weeks. It’ll be better if we do sugaring 5-7 days after menstruation, so the hair does not grow quickly.

Medical Risk
Bikini sugaring makes the body look cleaner and well-maintained. But there are things that need attention. The skin around the vagina including sensitive skin types are susceptible to temperature changes. Sugar or wax that applied in hot condition, can cause redness in the skin that eventually turn into black or hyperpigmentasi.
The process with wax, sugar, or threading, the hair that loose from the roots will make the skin pores opened. If you're not careful, it can cause folliculitis or inflammation of the hair follicles. Some of this infections can develop into serious a inflammation. Damaged skin tissue also causes abnormal conditions, such as hair grows back, that cause itching and redness of the skin.
Besides, applications and treatment that are not clean during or after waxing can cause the appearance of acne on the skin due to Staphylococcus aureus bacteria growth.

Tips
After the sugaring, do not rub the skin up to 3 days. Do not soak in warm water, so the pores of the skin is not more opened.
Avoid a lot of sweat after waxing or sugaring, to reduce the risk of bacterial infection.
If irritation occurs, use an antibiotic cream according to the medical prescription.
It is very important to choose the clean and hygienic sugaring shop. Choose a shop that use a spatula, cotton strips, and threading yarn that used only for once.

Bikini line hair removal is pesky, painful and pricey, but this time of year, you’ve got to grit your teeth and bear it (unless you’re one of the 25% of our readers who say they go au naturel). We can’t take away the pain, but thankfully, Blisstree recruited Shobha Salon in New York City to give our readers the chance to win a free bikini wax!
